Hi, Lately have noticed some sites starting with http://www1...,http://www2... etc.How does it differ from the common http://www.name.com? How does one configure such settings for a site? Regards Mellisa
A record inside a domain, or subdomain might refer to a hostname, or a service provided by a number of machines in a cluster. Some websites use different subdomains to point to different server clusters. For example, www.example.com points to Server Cluster 1 or Datacentre 1, and www2.example.com points to Server Cluster 2 or Datacentre 2, etc. You can configure subdomains in your control panel (cPanel, DirectAdmin etc)
use subdomains with www1..............and change the setting for crawler to crawl your website without www
its just a subdomains infact even www. is also a subdomain universally used and connected to the main site
It's a poor man's version of load balancing. Using this technique is terrible from and SEO perspective because it introduces URL canonicalization issues, duplicate content issues, and split page rank/link juice.
