    I think it doesn't allow SE to cache the page

    it wont allow SE to cacde your pages, nor to cache them in visitors computer, if i am not mistaken.

    advantages - visitors see updates right away and never land on a cached version
    disadvantages - more bandwidth wasted as the page will get reloaded full size every time.

    Meta tags for good for SEO. (too some extent). Without good content and back links, meta tags are nothing. But a good meta tag gives high CTR as people read title/description before clicking. :)

    <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> doesn't allow SE to cache the page

    Good for contantly updated site like stock news but may be unsuitable for an article or content-based site.

    It has advantages and disadvantages. If your website is modified on a daily basis than it's good.
