What does this code do?

Take a look at the source on free360xbox.co.uk

This is a high ranking site for the term "free xbox 360"

I would like to know why at the very bottom of the source are loads of links to random adult sites.

Is this how he gets a good rank, if so why does he!?

That's called cloaking (hiding text/links) and will get you banned from the search engines if you get caught doing it. Funny thing in this case since those links are also causing PageRank to be bled like water leaking through a sieve.

Anyway, I just reported them to Google. So sit back, relax and enjoy a bowl of popcorn.

It's simple. Search engines don't allow content to be served to them that regular people cannot see. In this case, links are being hidden from view that are being picked up by the search engines, and is against all the engines' terms of use. You get caught (as these people did) and you get banned (as they will - especially given that I personally reported them myself).

i am the owner of free360xbox.co.uk
and i can asure you that this had nothing to with me
AGAIN I have no idea how the link got on my index.html page
i am awaiting a explanation from hostgators abuse department regarding this.

the fact that this has been raised in a couple of forums worries me as i have a young family and i dont want this to cause trouble for my family because someone has exploited my site.

i have done my homework into this and this is what i came up with
As well as the incest links there was also a encoded url hidden on my homepage.
Ive just decoded the encoded url via http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/
and the encoded url was called
    http://byuthing4me.info/
its a site that pretends to scan your pc for virus and malware and then tells you to download there software.
The domain redirects to a paid to install affiliate program his affiliate exe is Install2419.exe of http://scanner.malwarealarm.com
The http://byuthing4me.info/ domain name is registered to a guy in London called ben but it doesn’t state his full address
His registered email for that domain is

A search for the domain 2chemp.com found the link
    http://www.dnbots.com/domainslists/0-9.0142.html
it looks like its a giant sitemap for indexing spam
    so i then visited
    http://www.dnbots.com/domainslists/
and searched in the b category and found the domain
    http://byuthing4me.info/ located below
    http://www.dnbots.com/domainslists/b.0859.html

that is all i know as of now
maybe its been done to harm the ranking i dont know

it may be first but it gets about 10 signups a day out of searches on google
and it takes about 1200 signups to get 40 participating signups
    so it aint that great

I assume the issue has been dealt with?
I no longer see the links. I assume the site was hacked?
Would be good to know host gator has taken precautions for future attempts if this is how it was done.

hostgator have got back to me regarding the issue have said the site was exploited on feb 24th of this month and that they have implemented procedures to insure that there will hopefully be no reaccurances and as a precaution i should still change all my passwords and that the offending ip 75.36.41.201 belongs to SBC Global, a US ISP.

With a bit of luck people will put there pitch forks back away now.
ive also found the following site that im using for the site now
    http://www.changedetection.com/monitor.html
it will inform me of any changes to my html
