    Ok, I keep seeing the term PR and rankings from 0-5 showing up on the forum but I dont really understand what it is (I tried doing a search but the search function here doesnt like terms less than 3 letters). I am sure there are a couple hundred of you that can answer this for me. Oh and how do you check the PR of your site?

    It means Pagerank ..

    Google ranks pages based on how important they are to the world. This is done with a complex and very secret math equation. The basic ingredients include content richness, page authority, keyword density, back links, exit links, traffic, and search demand. No body outside of Google knows the exact formula ..

    Your PageRank is the end result of all sorts of calculations, but in the end it's a popularity contest. So the higher your PageRank, the higher your chances of being found on Google are.

    I was looking into Page Rank when I first started looking to increase my rank on Google and found a formula that explains how Google calculates a web sites page rank. It is probably realistic to assume they use a variation of this formula nowadays but it gives a little insight into the basic idea. Here's the formula:

    PR(A) = (1 - d) + d * SUM ((PR(I->A)/C(I))

    Where:

    * PR(A) is the PageRank of your page A.
    * d is the damping factor, usually set to 0,85.
    * PR(I->A) is the PageRank of page I containing a link to page A.
    * C(I) is the number of links off page I.
    * PR(I->A)/C(I) is a PR-value page A receives from page I.
    * SUM (PR(I->A)/C(I)) is the sum of all PR-values page A receives from pages with links to page A..

    So its basically how close to the top you come in a google search? When people refer to PR are they talking about the actual page that the site comes up on or is it the acutual link number (ie, third one down on the seach would be PR of 3 or PR of 3 would be on the 3rd page of the search results)

    thanks everyone for your patience. I guess I had never heard it referred to as PR before.

    But why is it that one of the member here shows the formula how Google
    Calculates the Pagerank of a certain site.
    I thought PageRanks does not involve calculations.
    Now, i have a little idea how Google rank every pages. It is though calculations

    yes dear u r right, google distribute the pr to all the sites which are added on a particular linkpage.

    suppose if the linkpage pr is 5 and there obl is 100 then google distribute this pr 5 among all 100 obls.

    thanks
    :)
