I have computer with 1.7 Ghz processor. I upgraded it to 2.43 Ghz processor but i notice no change in speed or performance of games. What does processor speed really effect?

Processor helps speed up "processing" instructions one by one. Performance of games depends on your memory of graphics card.

3 main parameters effect game performance - RAM, CPU speed, video card. Just upgrading one of them won't probably do you any good if they have been previously balanced. You upgrade CPU - the game gets slowed down by video card, then it lacks RAm and so on.

By just upgrading Processor u can't get good results in playing games. Upgrading RAM, Graphic Card, Processor effects game performance.

You have to match all the bus speed among main board, processor, ram, agp. setting them at maximum bus you will get the height performance from your pc.

Processor is the main unit of cpu, which executes instructions one by one given by OS or other softwares and also some basic instruction like registry shifiting , registry editing and controlling other devices by giving out controlling signals. Upgrading processor alone wont giving you better performance, RAM plays very important role, because it is the only direct memory that could be accessed by Processor(even there are cache, they are neglected) Even processor is 2.43Ghz your RAM must be large enough to feed up the processor with its full need. And if you need better gaming performance increase your graphics card with better configuration.
I hope this post be would be helping you to get your answer.

what i have experienced is all CPU's are good for doing general things.
gaming experience now a days depends mainly on your GPU's

but the CPU speed matters when you are multi-tasking
for e.g try playing a game and listening to music (on slow CPU's music playback probably will stop)

try converting a movie from one format to another, here you will definitely see a difference....

Processor speed mainly comprises the speed of internal processing of data which is not practically visible
