    In terms of the web hosting business industry what does Media in the domain actually mean?

    You have so many companies with the word "MEDIA" inside them.

    For example.

    http://www.switchmedia.co.uk/hosting/
    http://www.skylightmedia.co.uk/
    http://www.purposemedia.co.uk/

    What is the general consensus and ruling on this name?

    Can you use this name on a business that does web hosting, web design, seo and all rounder, all services?

    Most companies use Media in the widest sense of the word because it sounds professional and cool, and their first choice of name was already spoken for, so they added in media. I do not think the word has an exact meaning any more and is probably used as an extention to a company name.
