    Marketing is the hardest part - I own a photo upload site too but it's so hard getting traffic to it.

    imageshack and tinypic gained popularity off of warez, bittorent sites. I remember years age, they used these sites to display screenshots and all the stuff about the warez and movies etc. So when the warez site used about 1000-2000 of TinyPic's pictures, TinyPic then bans the site and replaces all the pictures with a picture saying that this site is banned and go to tinypic for best image hosting, things like that.
