Today I was checking domain information for a particular directory in whois information. There is a point "DomainTools Exclusive" where in the Reverse IP section it was showing "251 other sites hosted on this server." What does it mean? Excuse me if I have asked a very simple question over here. Thanks
Nothing to worry about. Basically it just said that DomainTools found 251 other websites hosted on the same server in which the directory you are checking out is hosted in and sharing the same IP address. It does not say anything about the ownership or anything you need to worry about if you do not own the site in question.
WebHosting companies stopped before many years to give a unique ip per site A unique ip is now charged as extra and is essential only to specific requirments, so what you saw was a list of other sites as eddy said above with the same ip as the site your queried
Ok. You mean to say these sites are not network sites, neither they are meant for cross-linking. Once I hard network sites all belongs to same class IP and they only meant for link exchange process. That is A link to B, B link to C, C link to D and so on where B, C, D all are network sites. Please let me know regarding this concept.
No, it does not indicate any cross-linking. It does not even show any relationship of any websites. It just say that on that server, that one IP address is shared with 251 known sites. That's pretty much all. Pretty useless information as far as linking is concern. They may be all linked, they may not. They may belong to the same customer, they may not. It does not say anything.
