Is there any tool to determine my google rank upon a certain phrase, when that rank is way low, even hundreds of pages in? I'm just about to start a google campaign on a competitive phrase. This phrase brings up just over a million results right now. So that I can track my progress, I'd like to locate my current google ranking, and how it changes over time. Since this campaign is just starting, I can imagine how the page is showing up at spot 900,000 out of a million hits. As you can imagine, I don't want to fish through thousands of pages to find where I rank at the moment. Then, I want to see if my efforts are having a positive effect. So, I want to chart my improvements over time, even if it's still way off. So, if my position improves from 900,000 to 800,000 to 700,000, I still want to be aware of that. Can you recommend a tool that locates my google rank for a specific phrase, even when my ranking is very low among a million plus hits?
No tool will provide position information beyond page 100 (ten per page) because the search engines return no more than 1000 sites, ever. So until you get to #1000 or better, you'll never know. That said, there are many many software packages and online services that will monitor position for you. Search the term "seo keyword tracking" and you find lots to try. They come and go and so I'm not up to speed on which ones are best right now.
