What does image in text links do?

    Hi

    I have one short question. When I create text links in amazon affiliate program, I get text link and a small (1x1 px I think) image. Now what I would like to know is, what does this image do and if I can remove it or not.

    it provides the "impression tracking" on the amazon reports pages.
    Totally safe to remove it if you want.
