Hey guys, if you have a paragraph with the same info within the contents on a few pages [not every page] on your site, would google see this as duplicate content or does duplicate content only pertain to having the same info re-worded on a page?

yes, Google will consider as duplicate content. Better Write your own content or if you are not be able to write yourself than you may hire writers to write post for you.

Yes it is duplicate content. But having a small paragraph in several page will not affect you negatively. If the para helps the user experience, you could have it. If duplicated content is just to improve keyword density, get rid of it.

Thanks guys, the duplicate content paragraph has info about myself and is only 2 short sentences, what I have done is not to use the same exact overall paragraph, I have rewritten it a little.

Yes google consider it duplicate content, so the solution is not to change words we also use canonical tag to save website from search engine's plenty. If you have any content of this type you should use canonical tag.

Not sure I am understanding canonical tags, this is my new theme here which I have temporarily setup on a subdomain to work on it till it's completed and ready for SEO work: http://newwordpresstheme.pcandnetservices.com/
This piece of info is among the very first thing I want visitors to see:

"I am Mike, a private Tech with close to 20 years of experience in the Pc repair and computer technology world. I work out of my private Home Office in Queens which is why you can get the low pricing and why you get very personalized service."

So I have included that info on the Home, Services and About pages because I think it's relevant to those 3 pages. Please tell me how I can use the canonical tag to address this duplicate content?

Duplicate content is content that appears on the Internet in more than one place (URL). When there are multiple pieces of identical content on the Internet, it is difficult for search engines to decide which version is more relevant to a given search query.

Better to stay away with duplicate content ...it will waste your time posting that content in the web.

Yes guys but the question is, is it considered duplicate content to have a small bit of info on more than one page on a site or if duplicate content means having the same info "on the same page"?

Guys, are you actually READING what the thread starter had asked? The answer is NO, Google will NOT see this as a duplicate content! I will explain:

Even top blogs use a small paragraph in the homepage and then they have a link "Read more" that actually links to the article page. This is NOT duplicated content as you actually link to the source. It would be duplicated content if you copy an article from internet (a page which already was indexed by Google) and paste it in your blog! ;)

I have been trying to get to the bottom of this issue for a while now so thank you very much for clearing this up! That is exactly what I was thinking BUT since you touched on this let me ask please, if you copy a piece of an article from the net to use only as a reference for your discussion, would that be considered duplicate content?

all duplicate content is not bad, depends on how you use it. I am under the impression that google does not penalize just
because you have duplicate content; however, you certainly may not get the highest rankings, even if it is just partial
content that links back to the source, even so, this is still duplicate content because it is not unique content, and there is
nothing wrong in doing this, but for best results, I think you should add unique content to the mix.

Even if you take a small portion and offer a link back to the source. It is still duplicate content because it is not
unique, and you did not write it yourself. You are simply using someone else's content, which is a common practice
for autoblogs. They will take 100-150 words, and import into their site, and some offer a backlink to the source....
It is not a good idea if this is all you are doing, and for the most part; you may or may not get any rankings, afterall,
the content you are using on your site is not uniqute content, so do not expect much. You use this type of content
in order to make your blog look more active or populated with content. Your biggest benefit is using your own content....
(this is why i mentioned earlier that you should mix it up...)

Auto content can have its own benefits...however, auto-content is not unique....
you best rankings will come as a result of your own quality content....

and that does not mean use Auto content for a year, then post unique
content once per year, even though you maybe using auto-content, you
still should be posting unique content on a regular basis, as you will get
your highest rankings from your own content, not someone elses content...

Yes, it's duplicate content. Some use article spinner for paragraphs to look like original. :)

if the content is more than 60% similar on other page, it is recommended to place a canonical tag...

Write your own content that will be more unique and use plagiarism checker to check whether your written article is how much unique and copied.

Let me change your question for you. Ask yourself....."What does everyone consider as original content?" Read this question once again, and just focus on the answer. All troubles are solved.
