I couldn't think of anything other than the obvious being above free listings and what was already said about not too many listings on a page, but be sure to post a note here when you are offering premium listings on the site. I also suggest you offer the capability to upgrade an existing listing already on-site to premium. Good luck.
a reasonable one-time fee. limited number of them. fast and easy to do/buy. bolded or otherwise highlighted. (p)(r) would be nice/helpful. that's all i need to make a decision. :0
I would like to be on a page with pr4 or higher with few other links. It would also be nice to be placed on a page with decent amounts of traffic.
I just thought of another thing I like to see in Premium directory listings. When you submit a listing at octopedia, you get 7 additional links on their details page. Of course, those extra links don't count as much as the direct link on the previous page, but its a great added bonus. I wish more sites had that as an option.
The main ones have already been mentioned but i also like a guaranteed refund if your site is rejected for some reason.
This is actually interesting for those who want to create a quality directory. Are there any other important points you can think of? Question: What does everyone want when paying for a premium listing? Summary so far: Limited number of listings per page Pagerank on the page where listing appears being above free listings the capability to upgrade an existing listing already on-site to premium reasonable one-time fee fast and easy to do/buy bolded or otherwise highlighted decent amounts of traffic to the page where listing appears additional links on a details page (deep linking) a guaranteed refund if your site is rejected for some reason Plain HTML links (no redirect script)
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this: I'd want my link to be woven into the editorial and definitely not in the "Sponsored Links" box. Google is smart enough to work out links and proximity to the standard "THIS IS AN AD" text. (In fact, matt cutts has touched on this in his blog). Even if they are not doing it already (which I doubt) they could discount those links altogether.
As far as traffic is concerned then directories hardly give traffic, but its always good to have permanent links from dirs. If a directory pass on PR only then its better to go for premium listing.
kanms7ue, presumably top of the category rather than top of the page (links from anywhere on a page transfer the same amount of PR). Something else that may be worth doing is business.com style sub-links for every listing. Widgets Site Products | Articles | Repairs | Auctions 5 links for the price of one
