Careful, attempting to solicite likes is akin to spamming and the mods take a dim view of this.

It is a pain in the butt having to get likes, it seems all the members who can give them out do give them out very sparingly. Although I guess that in a way, that's a good thing. It definitely restricts the quality of members who can post.

"Long serving members" have been bellyaching about all the spamming on here. Admin. did something about it with the new like system, and STILL some members are bellyaching. It appears that admin. is damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

"Long serving members" who have made quality posts have many likes and no problems. "Long serving members" who have made crap posts have only 1 or 2 likes.:)
So would we be "nothing" without them?

I am kind of curious though as I had a thread in the Buy/Sell Forum from a few days before the change over, and am dealing with people who were writing content for me through that thread. Can I leave them any kind of feedback for the work they have done?

You can leave a positive comment on their message board. That is something that everyone can see and would be appreciated by them.

Everbody will feel confused with every new rules but I think we will get used to it. If we depend on this forum then we have to obey what the rules are, I guess.

It's a very positive change and I am not talking only of the looks. I see Forum activity going up even further and I'll tell you why:
    1. With the emphasis being on quality posts more members will become interactive on the Forum. Those who are directed from the search engines will be impressed with the quality of the posts and stay on to sign up and participate.
    2. The benefits of advertising on the Forum will increase dramatically due to higher quality of posts and increased viewer ship. This will bring back/ bring more advertisers who will also join in the discussions.
    3. Honestly, many new members were trying to just rewrite previous posts in order to increase their post count. That will become a thing of the past because if you want to increase post count only and not improve the quality of your posts that is not going to work too well.
Besides, now you can easily separate the wheat from the chaff looking at the number of likes that a person has received. A high post count but not a single like will mean that a person is posting information which is not so useful after all. On the other hand a person may have a low post count but if he or she has several likes then you know that you can find quality in those posts. Visitors will find more useful information here than before.

"Think before you speak" is an old saying but it will hold true for posting on the Forum as well :).

With this new rules, I think we are created to be a better member that care about the continuity of this forum instead of your income only, am I right?

I prefer it. I never liked vbulletin 4. Xen Foro seems OK. MyBB and IPB will always be my favourite forum softwares though.
