Strange question, but DMOZ is so random, so what does it mean?

What does "DMOZ" mean, and how is it related to the Open Directory Project (ODP)?

The ODP is also known as DMOZ, an acronym for Directory Mozilla. This name reflects its loose association with Netscape's Mozilla project, an Open Source browser initiative. The ODP was developed in the spirit of Open Source, where development and maintenance are done by net-citizens, and results are made freely available for all net-citizens.

Surely, you could have gone to dmoz and looked for yourself.

No, it didnt mean to say that. It says 'New Open Directory Project'. I have nothing against digitalpoint, it was just an annoying coincidence.

LOL. I love that comment. I totally disagree, some are good, some are not so good.

Lets see if this DMOZ killer could kill it or not??? i personally think the idea behind your website/dir is weird... its purely against another website that is known. remember DMOZ has a standard, it has fame and it has a name that we all know... it may take years to accept submission cos of the number of submissions and then reviewing an adding them is another hectic thing... and besides that they rely only on quality yet they're free... its really worthy:D

DMOZ in the directory field is spinning all the directory owners with its name, and this is what other webmasters dont like, they couldnt wait to get listed regardless of the appreciation and traffic they get for there sites/directories....

so going against it is nothing fruitful for ya:(sorry to say but this is what i think:)

BTW i submitted a couple of sites as well:D

Well... I opened NODP in September 2005 (under name PaidPaid), then in Febuary it changed its name to NODP. I have just surplused 10,000 links in the last few days.

Thanks for submitting the links, rep added.

The only way to kill DMOZ is if Google decides to kill its partnership with it and chooses another directory or make its own?

P.S. DMOZ is already dead ... no editors no acceptions no nada .. I tried so many times to get some quiality sites there without any success...

    Ha ha ha ..

    Cheers,

How can you say that its DEAD??? Its there style, if we like it or not, but its not dead cos just in the past week many many good directories like Alive,Aviva, Dirsensei and Creed's LinkBook got added...still many others that i am not aware of....

so its not dead right, and strictly following the "Quality Links only" rule!!!

See the other thread. They should never have been listed in the first place.

It may be that there are no editors in that particular category or it has a large backfill. Do you remember which category it was you submitted into?

DMOZ has added the ability for editors from one section to help in the approval procedure for an outside category which should hopefully speed things up.

Doesn't hurt to submit. My oldest site was listed in DMOZ and still ranks number 1 to this day on all the major search engines for that area. There are a few backlinks form relevant sources but DMOZ I believe has played a large part in that SERP listings.

All you have heard is the negative stories from webmasters who want an SEO service from DMOZ (ie a link). DMOZ does not provide that service (a lot of other directories do). Have you heard anything from the 1000's sites that get listed every month (half of which were never submitted in the first place)?
