Hey, A really simple question here but I keep hearing the term and have no idea what it means. What does CEO stand for?
Yea, pretty much a you don't want to make him mad if you like your job guy. CEO is usually the Founder or relative of the Founder.
Google would probaly be able to answer most of the posts people make here on the forum but we enjoy being part of this great community Thanks guys!
A chief executive officer (CEO) or chief executive is the highest-ranking corporate officer, administrator, corporate administrator, executive, or executive officer in charge of total management of a corporation, company, organization, or agency, reporting to the board of directors. In internal communication and press releases, many companies capitalize the term and those of other high positions, even when they are not proper nouns. source

In high tech startups also know as the Cash Extraction Officer. (The guy/gal that gets the money from the VCs and Angels)
CEO is the guy at the top of a company who gets paid large sums even when his company does horrible. If he screws up bad enough they pay him a few million to leave.
That isn't always true http://news.smh.com.au/yahoos-embattled-ceo-received-traditional-1-salary-in-2007/20080430-29h2.html
Not in the majority of the cases, you can be the founder of the company and not be the CEO or related to the person who started the company.
The CEO does hold unlimited rights. Who ever owns the most stake in the company controls it. A CEO may just be a hired person with 0% controlling interest in the company. In this case they would be just paid maybe a salary.
