What does an SEO expert do?

I paid a SEO expert good money to increase the ranking of my site in Google, Yahoo, and MSN search rankings. In the time that he has been working on this (about 2 months) the sites Alexa has gone from 3 million to under 1 million and the site is showing up for a bunch of keywords in Google. I don't see any backlinks and the content on the site is the same. I don't understand. What did he do? This isn't magic. How did the rankings go up?

Anybody have a good understanding of this?

 

What is your Niche? Did he improved the ranking in Google?

 

maybe what he did is installed alexa toobar on his browser and visit your website daily.....and used his other computer to visit your website too....hehe

He is getting more back links for your site. If you have a lot of back links then you would be getting more traffic fromm search engines and thus your Alexa ranking will rise.

 

Ranking went up due to inbound links.

And how did you check to check backlinks? did you use Google?
Google doesn't shows all backlinks..

Forget about ranking, more visits and higer pr. Those are not always an accurate measure of success.

Actually, Google does show all indexed backlinks with their webmaster tools. i have 4800 in reality, but only showing around 10 in a google search.

 

I think that is the explanation. In Google I am not showing many back links but using domainpagerank.com I see over 2,000 back links. How would he get more back links? Forum and blog posts?

 

Yes by adding his links to signatures in forums and participating by having substantial conversations. don't just fluff post. It's annoying and could get you banned from forums.

 

Do you have any idea why? Viewing backlinks from webmaster tools is different than google search : link:domainname.com

 

Nothing read more and more seo blogs and implement what you have learned form there. That's solve you will develop skills gradually. There is no shortcut to success.

SEO on todays world is a bit complicate job because google changed its algorithm so no more blog commenting,forum posting,cheap directory submitting or any other link farming works.Genuine SEO person should build links from various resources that are considered white hat SEO.

 

How do you know Google changed it algorithm to exclude blog posting and forums? Are you privy to some information? Share details please.

if you hire A SEO expert, he get more backlinks to your site. I don't know how, I guess he and the company run hundreds sites/directories.

 

Adam, google hasn't changed its algo and has certainly not exclude forums and blogs. What the person was trying to say is, google is able to filter poor quality links much better now and reduce their values.

 

The smiple way to find out is to ask him! any good seo company will give you details of what they will do to get your site ranked higher and give you progress reports.

 

That is a great question and some speculate that it is set up that way because;

1. Not allowing a quick backlink check for step 2
2. Forcing individuals to create webmaster accounts with google. (perhaps to keep a better eye on webmasters and their activity)
3. Eliminating 3rd party software applications from hogging the server resources.
4. Frustrating Web Spammers.
5. Other reasons

 

I think he has placed link to your website in websites that is related to your niche and that has pretty good PR as well as good number of backlinks. He might also have paid someone for writing reviews about your website in their blogs so that - that way your site gets a permanent backlink as well some good amount of traffic.
