Everyone has their own opinion so just want to hear the same, what does Alexa traffic and ranking mean for your directory ? For me it(alexa ranking/traffic) looks quite fancy, not sure if it has done anything but i do get monthly, featured listing requests apart from the normal free link submissions.
I don't think it does much other then giving you an idea of how you fair with other sites, but don't put a lot of faith into it.
Faith hmm... can you really put faith in anything these days . I find that older your domain becomes more faith end users have in your site . Maybe word of mouth works too ?
I would say that the actual traffic that your actual directory gets, that shows up in awstats or GA or similar is more worthy of attention than seeing what the alexa rank is for your directory or any other site. The real visitors matter more than anything.
Haa pagerank still exists ? , for years i did not check my directories pagerank and only recently found out it is now Pr4 lol but inside categories grey except for few odd ones with pr 1 and stuff . I have given up hope on PR stuff, traffic i think matters more. But than again who uses directories these days to find something ?
Alexa is nice, but most people don't understand it when it comes to directories. What is nice is to find a directory with an Alexa rating that comes a high number of visitors from the search engines or returning traffic. However, there are a lot of directories out there that have a high Alexa rating simply from webmasters hitting the directory to put in a free listing. All of us directory owners would benefit if the webmasters took the time to find out where the high Alexa ratings are coming from.
