I editted an article on Wikipedia about 24 hours ago, adding useful content to the 2-paragraph long article as well as an "External Links" section with a link to my well designed and useful niche site related to the page. I'm guessing the moderators have approved of this, as the edits are still live. Anyway, I was wondering what this will do for me. The page is a PR of 5 but if I'm correct, Wikipedia has nofollow links, right? What EXACTLY does this mean? Thanks!
Well, thanks, but, lets not talk in a metaphoric tone. Literally, what does it mean and how can it affect me?
Just do a search for "nofollow" and all your questions will be answered. The best thing about a wikipedia link are the visitors from there who might check out your site.
It means that Google will not really count it as a backlink and will do nothing for your rank. You might as well post your link on a 0PR site. If Wikipedia would allow do follow links, it would be a spam city by now...
You'll get some good traffic from wikipedia until your link is removed. My experience is that your link will stay for some time, but if it's not an "official" resource for your subject, it will be removed eventually.
Google will give your site a little credit for the link, but not very much. Links tagged with nofollow do not count towards your page rank. The most that you can hope for is some traffic from the link. The moderators at wikipedia are heavy handed. Chances are your link will be removed. The edits you made are probably sitting in a que for someone to look at. After the changes and link are reviewed, do not get mad if everything you put in has been reversed.
Yeah, the immediate benefits will be the extra traffic (and depending on the topic, could be quite noticeable), but generally speaking, it's not going to do a whole lot for you PR wise, but no matter what anyone says, a link on WP, even being "nofollow" is still going to help you edge out your competitors. I'll take one any day.
Personally, I think they're a waste of time. Any time I've ever used Wikipedia for any info search, I never even make it to the end of the page. I've never clicked a link there. Just sayin....
hey i think you will get good quality Visitor form that page but i don't think so that you will get page importance from that site but you may happy with your visitors so carry on .and congrats for PR 5
its a no follow link so one pr help with that but traffic is awesome! lol, I've secretly been able to pluck in a few good links and vulture 1000+ UV's per month for my site for years now.
though wikipedia provide the nofollow links but it still drives the handsome traffic to your website...
it give you good amount of traffic as wikipedia have a huge amount of traffic so link come from this page also going to give you huge traffic
