I was just wondering what it means when I come across a site or blog with a high pagerank .. I do know that it means that the site has a high inbound link popularity, but what does it really mean ?

Can I assume for instance that a site has alot of traffic ? Or that the site is a succusfull one ?

Officially pagerank shows googles trust in a website, i.e. a creditable source.

actually before like u, i used to think that PR was based on getting a lot of traffic lol, but i was wrong, i used to work hard to get 100+ uniques daily advertising where i can lol, following the rules of course, but i was wrong, then i started to learn about seo and what it was then i started to build up my backlinks, and now im a pr3, working to get it higher

The question was about what the by experience people have seen happening to a high PR site ... i.o.w. the usual effects of having a higher PR on a site ...

Since google says that its about link popularity / relevance , one can fill in the blanks in tens of ways ...

According to Matt Cutts("google" this term ;-) if you don't know that gentleman), PR is one of 100 factors that Google looks at, in order to rank sites. PR sounds AWFULLY like a rabbit's foot. The correlation with traffic is number of back links. Both as referrals and search engines.
I can guarantee you from personal experience that low traffic does not equate to low PR(or vice versa).

PR isnt related to Traffic . High Pr doesnt mean that you have high traffic . though you can make some money by selling links if you have good PR .

Basically - it means the site has a strong link profile ( which usually means strong indexation as well)

    Profit >Traffic > SERP > PR

PR can push your site SERP position. If you got a high SERP for your site, you can expect to get more traffic accordingly.

But high PR sites don't always get high SERPs. Sometimes those sites don't get ranked high in SERPs. So they usually don't have much traffic. But this doen't mean the site is not successful.

Such sites often sell text links to survive. I know some PR7, PR6 sites that are not really known to people due to low SERP positions, but they sell links a lot, so they are successful in terms of profit.

We work toward position in google for specific keywords, rather than high pr. Some of our lower pr pages, are on the first page of google for targeted keywords. That's why we increase sales for those products by 300% last year.

High PR is good for selling links, does not much about site quality

Agreed: Page rank means absolutely nothing to any Serp, its how the page rank is gained is what the serps care about. Page rank can be faked and its a nasty untruthful trick.

Before I know SEO: I thought that green bar means high authority site.

While learning SEO: I see that high PR site is considered important in the Google world.

After learning SEO: The owner of the high PR site does a good job in link baiting... or other stuff :)

high PR is nothing more than effective, massive linking and it doesnt neccesarily correlate with high traffic or SERPS positions.

Forget the PR and work on Serps.

But working on SERPs means you would need backlinks, especially sites from higher PR.

If you are given to take PR1 relevant site and PR6 relevant site, which do you choose? PR really doesn't matter AT ALL?

True, but with good on-page SEO (for example, good research into the best keywords for your site), you can raise your SERPs substantially as well.

Well see here is the thing, that page rank simply tells us that a site is important to the search engines so this is a good site to get linked off and to link to. But if the page rank wasn't there, we could still find out how important a website is by checking the back links fairly easy.

to my experience only high PR (>5) "might" say something about a website site.

I got PR3 for a site that doesn't get any traffic and doesn't rank well for anything else that its own domain name. I also got pr1 for a barely built site with 3 pages, a couple of paragraphs and less than 10 backlinks. On the other site, I know many people have sites with very low PR getting good traffic, serps and substantial backlinks.

I disagree, I have several pr 3- 4s which are #1-10 in 20+ mill listings. But again, that has nothing to do with PR
