What does a buyer look for in a cover letter?

    Hi all,
I'm trying to break into the international writing business after some experience in content writing for Indian clients. What I find is that the formal, stilted, "I am thisandthatandthatandthis-so-hire-me-God" tone that worked for most Indian clients is of little to no use now. So this question goes out to both writers and clients.

What makes a good cover letter for an article writer? What details do buyers look for(apart from what is mentioned in the ad)? What degree of formality should i use while communicating with buyers? Above all, how do you promote yourself without sounding arrogant?

I'm more or less confident about my writing skills, but when it comes to promoting myself I simply draw a blank.
Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks!

You should ask a buyer but not a copywriter. No one would reveal the money-making secrets!

A cover letter should focus not only about your skills in writing, but it should also focus on the need of quality writing. The will give an emphasis both on the quality of content and your experience in writing.

    Thank you.

As a freelance writer and as a buyer/employer, one of the most important skills to put in a cover letter is confidence. Portraying confidence with your writing abilities can entice the buyer/employer to look further into portfolio rather than just pass you over. Unfortunately sometimes it can take experience to develop confidence and if that’s the case; move on to honesty. We all started at the beginning! Much success!

    Hi,
Use simple, easy to read language while keeping the effectiveness of content. Mention about your work experience, because that is very important to give an understanding about your writing experience. Quote a few lines of sample between 100-120 words.

Generally buyers would appreciate simple and effective cover letter.

    Thank you.
