May be useless to google, but some other search engines still place emphasis on meta tags. It's not wise to completely ignore them.

They may not be completely useless but definitely not worth spending more than 5 minutes (max) on them. Andy Jenkins from Stormpernet said the same thing in one of his videos.

Really if your doing the keyword research to figure out the keywords. Having them in the meta tags is a good idea.

Forces you to be organized and serves as a reminder of what your actually targeting rather than jumbled keyword loaded copy.

I usually add in my meta keywords and then use 1-2 of them in my meta descriptions and meta titles - keeps me focused on the phrases I want to rank for.

I know that Google pays little attention to keywords but Yahoo seems to, and I bet I could drive more relevant traffic to my site than spending an equivalent amount of time on Facebook/Twitter.

What is Bing's attitude towards meta keywords?

Funnily enough I use comma and a space but a former colleague told to only use a comma and no spaces as it was a waste of characters?
