It has been reported that Yahoo has bought Tumblr for $1.1billion. I am sure David Karp has a mixed feeling of excitement (for having that huge amount) and perturbation (for his future and the future of Tumblr). But, with the acquisition of the wildly popular blogging platform, I want to know what you and the users of Tumblr think Yahoo can get from it. Or perhaps, your opinion on what Tumblr can get from the acquisition. I am sure there are some modifications on the platform itself. This could be a bold move for Yahoo, though.
Yahoo move on the same path of google. Google spend 1.6billion to purchase youtube. Now a days, YouTube is on track to generate $4 billion in revenues and $800 million in operating income. Same yahoo think , they can generate 500m in 2014 where tumblr revenue income is 13million in last year.
Yahoo will gain a much bigger share in the webshosting market. They can also offer ads (similar to AdSense) to Tumblr users and make money that way.
Yahoo will abandon Tumblr soon and it will join their portfolio of dead investments. They don't know how to work with this sites and they will just let them die, just like they did with all of their investments.
You're probably right, iulian.pw. But, this could be Yahoo's time to get back on track. They might have lost their investments, but I am sure they also learn their mistakes. And this is something new that Yahoo is trying to venture into. This is a way for them to rival Google's Blogger and, then, innovate the blogging platform.
Yahoo is also a big company globally, and it is direct competitor of Google as well.. Not only this, Yahoo is older than Google... however, Google gained more popularity in short period of time because it helps all, it thinks of helpless, poor too giving place to do business using Google's many programs, lots of small businesses are also surviving due to Google, lots of off-line businesses are also surviving due to Google.. these are the main reason of Google's popularity.
They gain access to content, and that can be monetized. And they also gain access to consumer behaviour, which can be analysed + packaged and sold and of course monetized through ads as well.
