What do you people think of X--X domain names like x--m.com for example? Are they worth anything more then the registration cost and will the value increase?

That's my opinion too, but a lot of these domain names with 2 - are already registered and I just had to check if I had missed something :D

Sorry about that. x--m.com sounded like a good example since my company is called Xavier Media :D If I register x--m.com then you may get a lot of my traffic since most people will probably not type a double hyphen :D.

I am unclear about the thread.

If you are discussing domains that are simply meant to be four characters by using two dashes, the logic escapes me. Bizarre use of reg money. It is hard for me to imagine that this is truly happening. Is this really what you mean?

If you are discussing IDN domains that begin with xn dash dash, no one types them in with xn--anything. The user types in his or her own language. They are not English language domains. They only look like xn-- unless you have that specific language added to your browser's language preference.

    For example:

    a) Cybercafé.com will show in your browser if you allow French.

    b) The domains チップ.jp (chip), 回路.jp (circuit), or スキャン.jp (scan) will show in Firefox or IE7 if you have Japanese enabled.

    c) If you speak and write Thai, you could type วีดีโอ.com (video).

    d) Same with ойл.com (oil) in Russian and زيت.com (oil) in Arabic.

IDNs are just another type of domain and irrelevant to those of you who focus exclusively on the US market. If you have a Spanish keyboard, you can type in Niña.net or Señor.biz. If you have a US keyboard, you cannot type that in. Ignore them if you want, unless you write and develop sites in other languages.

Sorry if I misunderstand the thread here.
