What do you think of .tv?

The .tv extension has been revived by Demand Media and is now widely associated with media/video and television by many, both within the domaining industry and enduser's. What are your thought's on this extension? are you enthusiastic about it's "re-birth"? Are you going to delve into the .tv market or are you sticking with what you know best?

I bought advertiseonthe.tv a while back. Seemed a good idea at the time, but probably not worth much really.

WPO Solutions, I see you are in the UK. I believe .tv is well used in Europe by a number of large companies. IMO (if it was available) it may have been better had you reg'd AdvertiseOn.tv! I see you are using it as a redirect do you have any figures of type-in traffic for the name?

I think the .tv extension has huge potential to be the #2 player behind .com However I am somewhat worried about how Demand Media is handling the extension. Many people I have spoken with have expressed concerns or questions about their premium pricing.

The customer service on Enom does not help matters much either. They have a huge gift in their hands & I question if they know what to do with it.

The premium pricing is set by Verisign not Demand Media. It is unfortunate that Demand Media have not got together with Verisign and expressed their customers concerns about this.

Sorry I typed it in Demand Media, I did mean Verisign. Thanks for catching that error. I agree that is a shame that nothing has been done about it. I also question the amount of names listed as premiums.

I think if you buy .tv names, you have to make sure you only buy names that can be developed into some sort of video site

..and what makes you think .tv has potential to go #2 to .com???

.tv really only has the media market to work with, whereas .net. org et al have virtually everything else to work with...

What is the biggest thing on the internet? Media.......exactly! Let's be truthful here how many of us are searching for .net,.org etc on an everyday basis??? Most use search engines which produce results on a keyword and popularity basis which usually (not alway's) lead's to a plethora of .com sites. The .tv extention has the "Potential" to be up there with the big boy's because of the Media factor. Media and social networking is king to today's youth e.g. Myspace, Youtube, Facebook etc.
I would not claim that .tv is going to be big overnight but it certainly has the potential unlike the other extention's you mention which have reached their peak.

If you got a really good .tv domain and build a good company with a working business idea you should be able to sell it later for a few millions. That works with both .tv, .com, .net or even .eu, but it may be slightly easier bulding a famous company with a .com domain as base since that domain is more popular at the moment. .tv got potential but you need to put in a little bit more work then if you had the .com domain.
