I think paris hilton is the epitome of the "look at how stupid (but rich) I am" culture the media loves to put out there.
Gotta head out, so can only say this briefly - in my book, which is quite receptive to just about any artistic work - art is art when it seeks to infect the human spirit. When it is generous. When all it is is a personal vomitus, it is masturbation. It is selfish, and as such, it has no audience. It stays in the cloistered hall of one's mind. Which is great, just don't charge for it. Purely subjective, as you say.
Please... part of Tupac's personal motivation was to make both money and to be one of the most popular rappers around.
hmmmm the music buying public disagree with you. IN MILLIONS . Thankfully this is a free world, and provided it is not illegal, then market (and marketing LOL) forces dictate .
Not sure why I am debating this really, because for years I thought Tu pac Shakur, was some form of high power bonding adhesive! <joke>
You got me there. Alright, the guy's a punk, and I don't like him. I don't know. If I walked up on stage, took a crap, heaved to row 15 and got clapped to by millions - is that art? Or is it just feeding the machine that says bigger, louder, faster, more shocking? Subjective distinction, of course. I guess for me art means what I earlier said it did, but it also means that which helps me to better know what it is to be human. Not sure that thinking on raping and murdering my ma, or murdering my main squeeze, then driving around town with her corpse in the passenger seat all day, helps me to be more human. I actually don't give a damn about the punk. I don't like watching masturbation, which is all I consider it to be. So I call it crap. Spewings from a talentless moron. Just as you are free to call it the "impassioned prophecies of a gifted artist," if that's your thing.
