What do you think of this referral technique?

I'm marketing a college academic site.
    http://tinyurl.com/2bjkzn

If you're a student, and you know a student, you can refer him to the site for 50 cents. The referees must have a .edu address to prove he is a student.

    Checks to go into place:

    Unique IP
    Paypal must be verified
    Unique Email

Do you think this would work? If I spend $50,000 on this marketing technique, it would give me 100,000 members (which is how big DP is right now).

Students could just put the URL in their facebook or something...do you think they would do it.

would you do this referral program?

bcuz I want to see the site myself.

You can simply put the affiliate link in your signiture and just ASK for people to click that and support you.

I dont like being tricked into clicking any link. That is why I am asking. I dont really know where the tinyurl will lead.

That is how I feel. Sorry otherwise.

I'm not asking anyone to join my site. I'm not tricking anyone...

I was just asking if the referral method was good.

The reason I don't put my real URL is because i don't want it to get indexed by google.

Why don't you just try if people are willing to refer their friends for 50 cents?

When advertising, would you spend fifty cents per click?

That is what you will be doing with this method.

No, I'm sorry, it will not work. You will not only lose your shirt, but you'll lose your fucking shoes.

But, then again..what is your goal here???

I'm paying 50 cents per conversion.
The goal is to get users signed up.

Because most who do sign up lose the interest soon thereafter.

Try it. You will see what I mean.

    Consider doing this:

Go to one of my pages.

    http://www.thelist.fm/Dating-Site-Women.shtml

Scroll to the bottom. You will see one of my "tell a friend" forms.

Put in good content, and put the form right in front of their face!

One of the reasons why CraigsList, or, for that matter, DigitalPoint became so big so fast is due to word of mouth.

I'm sure some students would go for that, it's an easy way to make a few dollars. The question is, how many students will stick around? And will you make money with them? ($50,000 is a lot to recoup.)

You might get alot of people siging up but that doe snot mean they will use the site. Work on promoting site and having good content so it does well without paying people to join.
