What do you think of this layout?

If you haven't seen it, my site is flashgamereviews.com

I am planning on changing the layout to this one:

Does this seem like a good idea? I think it looks better, just doesn't seem to have as much... 'character'?

What do you think? I want it to look like a game site, but I also don't want it to suck :)

Yeah I think the new design looks a lot nicer, and I don't noticce a loss of character. To me, it seems like there is a lot of blank space and looks weird to have the top of the navigation menu beside the header, I would rather see the header stretched across both columns.

For future reference, we do have a Reviews section (one for websites and one for other things like templates I think).

To be honest I'm really not getting the feel of a gaming website from either of your templates. I know your website is small but I think you should make something that looks like a smaller version of let's say GameSpot.com. You could also add additional things to your site such as game cheats and maybe promote Ebay's affiliate program so you can refer people to video games and video game consoles. Even if you don't making money from the program you are still adding more of a gaming atmosphere to your site.

The layout is nice and clean, but as others have said it doesn't have much of a gaming feel. Perhaps you could create some custom buttons or dividers which feature game characters or things associated with the games?

The second one is a definite improvement on the first one, but when I asked my son to take a look at both (he's right into online gaming, I'm not), he thought both layouts were dead boring.

Apparently the hard core gamers go for more flashy stuff than us traditional marketers. To quote my son, "It doesn't look like much fun to me"

    Hope the input helps.

    The pros:
Layout is very clean and smooth. i really like the design.

    The cons:
As others have stated, it really doesnt fit a game site. It is too serious, make something fun. :)

Nice clean design, but I would look at monster template's game design templates and get a few tips. Just could use a little more zest.
