What do you think of this design?

What do you think of this design? I made it in about 1 and a half hours. It's for one of my new sites, a bidding directory.

Comments on colour, layout, and aswell as general comments and suggestions for improvements will be appreciated

Please forgive the big ugly green blocks with buttons written on them, they'll be for sponsors who have a button on the site (88 x 31 is the standard size?)

Well the template is certainly appropriate for 'Shout Links' if you know what I mean, the background + the clarity of the title text emphasises the whole template, especially the title, also the font is very clear and easy to read, although I would increase the spacing slightly been the characters which make up each sites description.

If there was one thing you could do to improve, I would say experiement with the sidewide buttons, like change there opacity, colour, apply effects etc, they can be improved me thinks.

 

I agree. The right side buttons look plain compared to the other buttons. And the text spacing could be increased just a little.

Overall: crisp, clean and not too busy. Nice job.

 

The template is no doubt a piece of good work .(assuming you have done it within one and half hour)

But sstill it needs a little makeover , as bacanze and bric said sitewide buttons needs a little attention .

Do you mean the buttons on the right hand side in that column?

I'm not using those buttons, they will be replaced with buttons for sponsoring sites

 

all looks good... maybe make your own icon folder would be great

 

I like it! However, the site needs some more red try changing the blue "some sites" text to red instead and see how it looks

I'm actually trying to ftp some files to the server and it must be down or something, its sooooooooooooooo slow.

it looks alright to me. not my style but it doesn't look bad. only thing that i see wrong with it, is the background. that and i agree with 8everything (once again hehe) about it needing more red. websites in general should distribute colors evenly across the board. helps to get a better "flow" into the design if you follow with what i am saying. looks great other than that though bud.

 

If those buttons are going to be replaced by sponsor sites,
Than i must say the design is perfect and unique .

- Version 1 with the green links
- Version 2 with the red links

 

not bad

i would make a clear seperation between the listed sites, maybe a faint dotted line or soemthing

 

much better but for some reason the big green boxes to the left are buggin me. looking better though bud

 

Because they look out of place due to the effect and size of them?

I'm going to experiment with a different style. I tried changing the colour (same style) but they all looked pretty sucky, green was the best one.

 

yeah, i think the size has a lot to do with it. honestly i'd probably just get rid of them completely and put a seperator between each site and description.

 

I need them/something to have the amount of money they paid, and "place bid"

here's just an idea that i tossed together for you. another route to try maybe? i dunno. what do you think?
