Hey all, What do you think of this competitors site? Im looking at legal avenues to try to use there layout (as much as i can) http://www.smh.com.au any comments would be great!
it's great, looks like a newspaper, i think that's what they were trying to achieve... wouldn't work at all for a lot of other sites, unless they happen to be newspapers too.. are you?
It is a newspaper site - a big one. You are courting trouble, my friend. If they are truly a competitor of yours, then surely you are enough of a liquid boy to afford your own design? Study their navigation and functionality and consider what makes that site so striking to you, then translate that into something fresh and outstanding of your own. I am getting an access denied message when clicking on your second link by the way.
Thx for your comments.. The reason i like that layout is that its very portal orientated.. I can easily retro fit most sites into a portal framework. I really like there layout! Ive also compared it to msn, cnbc, times, bbc, air uk. and to tell you the truth alot of them are pretty much the same, all good, but generally the same.. Im not looking to rip there site, but i want a newspaper type of format to my content driven portal.. Ive created a template that changes there layout just enough i believe. I posted the question to the legals forum to see what they say. And if i can't use there layout ill create my own, but i have a feeling its going to resemble theres
Like you said it looks just like a lot of other sites I have seen. I may be missing something and if so please point it out. But what makes this site so special? If it was my competitors site I would be trying to make one better not the same.
Do not like it. Colors are awfull - navy blue is retro. H1, H2 fonts wrong. And most of all page does not work! I use Opera and this page is full of scripting that makes page breaks in loading. You can do it much better!
