What do you think of the google competetion?

What do you think is google's intent in launching this competition http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=75460&in_page_id=34

 

I think it's pretty good.

I mean I can see googles perspective on it, $10 million to them for software isn't much (considering the amount of money they will make from advertisements on mobiles as well as normal computers from people browsing the web) and $10million is a good sum of money to get great people working on creating the software.

 

Dont you think they have enough people to write them the software

 

The programmers can't write it all, but will probably set up the framework

 

It gives someone else a good chance of becoming semi-famous for something.

They could get their software programmers to do it, but then they would only have one version to choose from. If they hold a competition, they can look at different variations so much easier.

 

Means they will have a team of programmers reading the code right? I dont know I have a feeling it is something else.
