I was thinking to register some .pro domains which will cost $100 per year. What do you think of the future of .pro domains?
I don't think you'll make your money back on them, they're probably for very niche'd sites and the cost is ridiculous.
There are restrictions on who can get a .pro. I believe there is a very small resale market, if any, and @$100/year not a good bet for speculation. http://www.registrypro.pro/products_overview.htm Members of the medical, legal, accounting and engineering professions, licensed in the United States, Canada, Germany or the United Kingdom, are eligible to register for third-level .Pro domains. Registrants can secure profession-specific third-level names such as name.law.pro, name.med.pro and name.cpa.pro. Each registrant's identity and professional license information will be verified against relevant public and third-party databases prior to domain name activation. Additionally, each domain is issued with a digital certificate and each registrant will have the choice of an SSL or email (s/MIME) certificate. .Pro Second-Level Resolving: Registrants who provide multiple professional services (e.g. legal and medical services) are eligible to register a resolving second-level name (e.g. companyname.pro). After purchasing and qualifying for two third-level domains, in two distinct professions (e.g. name.law.pro and name.med.pro), registrants may request their desired second-level name. Each resolving second-level name is issued with a digital certificate and each registrant will have the choice of an SSL or email (s/MIME) certificate.
I have heard of pro domains and I even tried to get forex.pro domain but it wasn't available and I agree with you, I don't see it having any great future. at least not for IM and webmasters.
Somehow this site got around the 'professsional' restrictions and got a 2nd level domain: www.proxies.pro They registered through encirca.com
How did someone get a pro domain for proxy You don't see this everyday in the phone book: John Doe Proxy Professional
There meant for bonified sites, like for doctors and lawyers. Giving people an extra sense of confidence that the site there on is not a spam, scam or mfa site. I imagine in the future more domains like this might come out like says .shop for certified online stores etc... There is so much spam sites out there saying something there not. Thies type of restricted bonified domains will give consumers a extra sense of confidence in the site their dealing with..
I understand where your coming from, but how in the world did a proxy site get a .pro SLD ???? It tells me that the owner of this top level domain really isn't doing this for the security issues but rather for his one financial benefits, at least if they're giving second level domains to proxy sites just my 2 cent's
I read on webmasterworld.com about it. (post #:683998) Don't take my word for it.. You can visit the official registra for this domain. http://www.registrypro.pro
According to their website (see my excerpt above) this is not so, but it is in practice. I guess they need the money. Let the land rush commence!
