    They are in some way representative of the population but due to the general apathy of people in a lot of countries the politicians have a habit of taking liberties with the office they are suppose to serve.
    Also they tend to pander towards the voters and the extremists as opposed to doing what is actually best.
    In general they are corrupt, but not all of them.

    However there is a very good irish saying.
    No mater who you vote for, the goverment still gets in.
