My friend and I just launched our newest site Devjargon and we're wondering what you guys think about the design of the site. Any feedback on how we can improve it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It is written using an XHTML 1.1 Doctype but served as content type text/html which is incorrect (should be served as content type application/xhtml+xml) -- that is why it does not validate.
Hi, I like the design, it is simple to read and easy on the eyes. I guess your biggest problem will be keeping the content up to date. Each article looks quite long, but if you have the time it should work. Congratulations, Gary
This maybe ask too much as I know most blog does not support it. A printer friendly option maybe very useful. As the other has already mentioned, your article seems to be long so people may want to print it out.
Hmmm, Very good point and one that I hadn't thought of. How would you suggest making it printer friendly? Just the content? Just header img and content?
I like the colorscheme but the black line below the "home" button looks off. Also, you should fix up the blogpost structure.
Thanks, What browser are you seeing the black line with? Im using FF 2.0 and I cant see it. Also what do you mean by fix up the blog post structure?
The visual design is lovely and simple. The code behind it is ugly and suffers from both the wrong doctype as James said as well as divitis (should be divosis but I guess computer geeks don't mix with medical geeks). You sure wouldn't need all this: <!--[if lte IE 7]> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://devjargon.com/wp-content/themes/devjargon/ie7.css" /> <![endif]--> <!--[if lte IE 6]> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://devjargon.com/wp-content/themes/devjargon/ie6.css" /> <![endif]--> Code (markup): if you didn't put IE in quirksmode in the first place.
Note on printer-friendly: You should be able to make a CSS style that removes the ads, most of the unnecessary images, and stanardizes the fonts and formats. You don't have to make the site always printer-friendly. You can use CSS to print it under a different style... That way you don't have to damage your current design. Looks great! Simple, and very easy to follow.
The layout and the content is good but the site looks plain you should consider adding some graphics to the site to make it more attractive.
Thanks for everyones comments. A CSS for printers is coming soon. @kingofsanda We actually designed it to look very clean with minimal graphics. The page will load quicker than most (as long as our server isn't being stupid...) because there are so very few graphics (only two on the entire site).
