What do you think of Opera browser?(in terms of CSS and client side scripting)

Internet explorer gives a hard time but what about Opera? It has more features than IE but what is the web developers/designers opinion on this browser?

I have recently had issues with this browser too, though my JavaScript/AJAX scripts and CSS performed perfectly on Firefox. What is YOUR opinion? And if you faced any problems, how did you solve them?

I have often heard people say that "It not actually opera's problem but the website's problem". How far is this true for a javascript which has no syntax errors and other data flow error such as those due to messed up conditional statements, etc!

[PS: this thread is NOT for opera fanboys who dropped in just to post 'Opera rocks'. I agree that opera is amazing but plz spare this thread. Thank you]

I use Opera, it has very, very good CSS support, and more than decent Javascript/DOM model, though it is weaker than Gecko's. Opera is a web developer's dream in terms of dragonfly (similar to firebug - in Opera 9.5), and one click page validation.

From the user's perspective I'd say that it renders a lot of pages incorrectly. That is my experience. Otherwise it's excellent.

Thats the coders problem. And a lot of the quirks mode stuff have been fixed in 9.5. Still, it has its problems, as does everyone.

I prefer Firefox over all the other browsers, but Opera is amazing on my Windows Mobile.

Opera si the best browser when it comes to security and it is also excellent when it comes to web standards compliance... I have been developing websites and such for some time now and I must say that Opera is probably the best browser for web developers.

I usually design sites to be displayed in safari, firefox, and ie. From past experiences, if a site displays correctly in safari and firefox, then it'll display correctly in opera.

    Hi rohan!

While designing new themes or templates, u can see that Opera and FF does the same. Opera renders the CSS almost 90% same as FF, but the only thing is they both run on different engines.

As far AJAX is concerned, FF will sure out perform Opera. If u had ever opened ur gmail account in Opera, u will see the difference.

    Opera is amazing.
I honestly never have had any problems with code not working in Opera. But then again, I always code XHTML strict, so I usually don't have many problems with rendering

Some things seem not to work on it though (toolbars, some coding). I have trouble with a CMS I created because it doesn't work in Opera, just means I use FF to update the site, no big deal IMO.

I'm using Opera as my main browser and I haven't noticed anything like that. My gmail account opens almost instantly in 2-3 seconds.

I've heard great things about Opera but never got round to installing it. I have firefox and am happy enough to stick with that for the time being.

If I start to develop more sites I'll install a few more browsers for testing.
