Lying is always the wrong way (excluding the extrordinary case of 'saving someone's life'). Sincerity requires courrage and most people aren't very courageous. Sincerity requires people to leave their little comfort zone, which is so safe and... lame. Sincerity without any compromise leads to a concious life, the only life worth living.

So it's not always wrong then and depends entirely on the circumstances.... just like i said.

OK, let's say survival of the fittest only applies to every living organism except humans (homo sapiens). Also, OP has been banned.

But this way of thinking always makes you look at certain circumstances as one of those where it's ok to lie, just to avoid facing the truth. (many times even unconciously)

A situation (saving someone's life): There are two friends who live in Texas (which has the death penalty). One of the friends is a KKK member. He goes out one night and lynches a black man, who never did anything to anybody. He then goes into hiding after the murder, but the first friend knows where he is. When the authorities come around to his house, the friend lies and tells them he doesn't know where the murderer is.

    Was this lie good?

Another situation: There are two friends. One friend is smarter than the other. The smarter friend asks his mother what he should do when he grows up. She tells him the truth. He can go to university and study anything he wants. He can grow up to be a CEO, a physicist, an astronaut, anything, because he is very intelligent.
The slower friend asks his mother the same question. The mother doesn't want to hurt his feelings but she knows that lying is bad so she tells him the truth. The only job he is qualified for is unskilled work like a janitor or fast food.

    Was this lie good?

I guess we should all try a 30 days experiment where we should not lie in any circumstances. No exceptions!
Then continue with this thread. I think making sincerity one of our basic principles of life simply makes us grow spiritually :)

If someone broke in to your house and said "where are your children, i want to kill them", would it be wrong to lie?
