    My vote goes to "email". It's one of the basic building blocks of everything about the internet.

    Instant chat and forums like DP are a very close second.

    I can live without FB or Google, but never without emails. I wonder who invented email.

    And please don't say facebook. Mark Zuckerberg did NOT invent social networking. Friendster, Multiply and other social networks existed WAYY before facebook.

    Ok, you can't say like that to Zuckerberg or else I will say there were many email providers but Yahoo was famous only....
    Thats what matters, one which is most used and famous.

    I'd vote for the concept of sharing be it via illegal downloads on one end of the spectrum to youtube videos on the other.

    Email would be the best online invention. Email was invented by Ray Tomlinson in 1971. It was improved in 1972 to include multiple users.

    Yes yes, how could I have forgotten that. This is the lifeblood of most of us here on DP. Being able to make money online. Without the internet, I'd probably be selling houses or cars...
