One should plan a stratergy to build links for a website. Also, if you have a e-commerce website then you cannot submit its pages to the social networking sites. They will ban the profile.

There's an easier way to do this. Find a few very active forum posters out there and pay them to insert your website into their signature. This works great! You will end up with thousands of backlinks.

Link building is very boring, no doubt about that. But if you can get past the tedium you can succeed. The key is to think about your end goal and not the boring task you are performing. This is what I try to do:

    - Start off slow. Don't do too much at once.
    - Get 4-5 very good, authoritative links first. These are the ones you have to pay $$ for. Think yahoo directory.
    - Look into one-way links through niche specific forums and blogs.
    - A good paid press release helps.
    - Slow and steady wins the race!

Link building is the most tedious of tasks and I fall asleep after looking at just a few directories. Therefore I no longer really look for links to build PR as such. I come to DP and look for someone that can help me out with links if I think they are legit, and should I come across a good site I contact them for advertising. I'm more interested in the traffic value rather than PR value of the sites that I advertise on.

Some great ideas here already; building quality links is hard work and there is no easy way. While submitting quality reviews to good directories is a way to get a new site rolling, you need to do a lot better than that if you want to rank in your niche. I have a LOT of sites, so I'll give you one example of a strategy I have found to be quite successful.

First, you have to know your niche and get connected within that community; social networks like StumbleUpon and Digg will bring you traffic if you get random links but they are all nofollow and as previously mentioned you or your site will get banned if you all you do is submit your own sites and posts!

You have to add value to your community. So for my site about window blinds what I did was find niche forums that are on "authority" sites for home decorating. I try to find forums that do not use VBulletin or other mainstream forum scripts since those are not as valuable as ones that use custom scripts.

As an example, for this window blinds site, I find home decorating forums and registered. After getting to know some of the regular visitors there and seeing what problems they are trying to solve, I start posting USEFUL replies that link to RELEVANT topics on my own sites and others that I think are also valuable and helpful to the community.

So, for instance, one member on the Garden Web Home Decorating forum needed to know how to cover arched palladium windows so I replied with some good tips and a link to a relevant post on my window blinds tips site about Arched Window Treatments. The link is dofollow and is not spam since it is useful and on topic.

I could give you many other examples but you have to know your niche and get involved in your community to make this strategy work. Yes, it takes time and a lot of effort, but the results are far more valuable than trying to get thousands of links from low value, unrelated sites or ezines article sites in my experience.

It's really more about quality than quantity but if you plan and work diligently you can build quite a large number of links naturally and steadily over time. This is what produces good search results and brings your sites quality traffic.

That depends on what you want. If your aim is to get good pr than you should make a plan for about an hour a day to submit to free directories of your niche. this is the plan i am using right now and i got PR4 and PR3 for my two blogs in 4-5 months. But remember you should not get tired of doing same thing doing everyday.

I take the long-term approach to link building. I submit to directories one day a week, blog comment a little every morning, and do forums twice a week. I also try and utilize free press releases as much as possible in between. Seems to work pretty well for me.

For seo purpose, I usually do some blog commenting and post the anchor text in my another blog. However, you also can outsource the work. Just pay $10 for professional and approved blog commenting gives me really good result.

Oh yeah, make sure put the link in relevant content, or the link will considered as spam

Several of you have advised discussion forum and community participation. Does Google attribute more value to multiple (signature or otherwise) links from the same domain? I thought only one link counts. Do search engines treat forum links differently?

Most forums allow you to post links so they don't all have to point to one URL; by linking to useful posts on your site you can help others while also helping yourself :D

There's always the option of outsourcing. For my case, I got so tired of doing the same thing over and over again that I outsourced it to submitedge.com. These guys did a very good job of using a combination of techniques - articles, directories, social bookmarking and more.

I signed up with one of their packages and today my site is PR5 in just 4 months. Not too sure if it is entire their work that improved my PR but I am sure they did contribute. But remember that content is KING.

    Cheers.

OK I admit I'm biased but I think the best backlinking approach is the system in my signature (Neurolinker). It give one way links from related websites by matching up your site with related sites from the 1100+ sites already in the network. It also has article marketing with an article spinner for unique articles built in, and it now has a collaborative social bookmarking system to get you permanent one way links from social BM sites. And it is one of the least expensive systems on the market, costing way less than most of you spend on DP services each month.

    For example,

You are creating about an article about dogs and you are targeting "dogs" keyword. Search it on the three search engine giants. Copy all Top 5 sites in the results. Use Analyze Backlinks. Acquire a backlink from all the sites that link to the top 5 sites in the search results.

Disclaimer: It is not guaranteed that this work. Thank you and please pay a visit to my blog for more information.

    traffic from directories:confused: I don't think so.

How do u find that such forums have used Vbulletin script? And, is there any specific reason that such forums are not as valuable as ones that use custom scripts:confused:

I think that google is completely discounting directory back links because they resemble link farms and are just a bunch of links in a list. I have a couple sies with 10-15k backlinks and they do not do nearly as well in the serps as the sites with 5000 or so quality links. If a link exchange partner puts your link in a directory on their site that is not indexed then what good did it do. Concentrate on quality and the results will come. Results will prove to be motivating as well as the $ that come with it.
