From the looks of it, Moneybookers does not have the infrastructure to take on Paypal.

Sadly speaking, we live in a very unfair world. The Paypal support countries make up the bulk of the countries with the highest spending power especially over the internet. Currently, it supports some 103 countries which represents about 1/2 the world.

Moneybookers although support a wider net, not many countries have full-fledged facilities. Some countries cannot fund their account except through the expensive wire transfer.

Paypal supports funding on demand meaning that you only load your account for the payments you need to make while Moneybookers typically require you to load the account before you can use it. So that may not be good for impulse buyers.

Paypal makes it easier to receive Credit Card payments and it has an extensive Merchant account services such as the subscription, buy it now button and invoicing which Moneybookers does not support as widely, at least to the most of us.

In the end, actually if you have a credit card merchant account or a payment processor which supports credit card like 2checkout, you should cover quite a wide market.

I'm afraid I didn't understand that part, you can open a Moneybookers account and use it (in example, to 'request money' from someone) without need to load the account, the same as with PayPal.

When you open a Moneybookers account, you have zero balance in the account. Can you send money to someone else if you have a zero balance ? From my experience, it does not take out from my bank or credit card automatically. I have to send the money from my bank account or credit card to the Moneybookers account then with the money in it then I am able to send someone. Yes, you can request money from someone else but you cannot pay with a zero balance from your moneybookers account.

With Paypal, you link a credit card to the account then only when you pay, it will ask if you want to use existing paypal balance or fund on demand from your credit card.

I misunderstood the context of your words:

"Moneybookers typically require you to load the account before you can use it"

I got the feeling you were saying one can not 'use' account in any way (in example, to request money). Thanks for additional explanation.
