My mistake, it was orginally written in Greek.

What is your image of God then? A cruel, cold hearted beast that enjoys tormenting people?

John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

And before that he murdered entire villages and set laws that women must marry their rapists.. and all who do not believe in him must be killed.

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

    Murder NON BELIEVERS:(Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel.

Murder NON BELIEVERS AGAIN:(2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

    MURDER HOMOSEXUALS:(Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives."

ITS OK TO RAPE: (Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NAB)
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Hmm.. if a woman is raped, her father gets paid, and she has to marry the man who rapes her. How nice of God.

    DEATH FOR FORNICATION:(Leviticus 21:9 NAB)
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.

    DEATH FOR HITTING:(Exodus 21:15 NAB)
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.

    KILL FOLLOWERS OF OTHER RELIGIONS.
    1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

    2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death.
    (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

GOD WANTS YOU TO HAVE SLAVES:
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

God, if he were to exist, would be much further removed from humans than humans are removed from amoeba. After all, you and I cannot create an amoeba.

Humans would be dirty little toys to him, something he created for his amusement. If humans are good, it is because he created them that way. If humans are bad , it is because he created them that way. Hell, he defines "good" and "bad" according to his whim!

I would not be surprised in the least by an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent god that wants to send some of his creations to eternal torment.

Think about what makes children mature -- limits. God has no limits, so he would have no "maturity" in the sense that we understand it. God would be the biggest baby in the Universe.

You're welcome to believe what you wish, as am I. But I just can't deny the existence of God with all the beautiful, complex and diverse creatures out there, the way the planets are in perfect orbit, etc.

    Later.

yo-yo, are you atheist, or does your general sense of anger in life carry over to your creator? It sounds like you've been over to evilbible . com again.

Um... the planets aren't in perfect orbits.

This was proven by Johannes Kepler around 1609.

The planets are where they are. If they were each in a different place, you could describe those locations as "perfect" in the same way that you think of their current locations.

I am glad that you see the Universe as beautiful, but that is just a judgement based upon your socialization. It is not a statement about the Universe, it is a statement about yourself. The Universe simply "is" -- it predates and dwarfs the very concept of "beautiful."

The diversity and complexity of natural life has been explained in detail through the process of evolution.

If there is a god, he has chosen not to reveal himself to us. Therefore, if there is a god, it is irrelevant to us as humans.

If god exists, I would seriously enjoy having a beer with that guy. But if he does exist, he certainly isn't calling me and asking me to go for a beer with him. So what does he matter to me?

yo-yo, seriously, you are making athiests look like morons.

Please, before you go attempting to bash Christianity, learn something about it.

Look at Friedrich Nietzsche -- he bashed Christianity with wit, style, and accuracy. Fred is a joy to behold. Fred is a person for all athiests to look up to.

You, on the other hand, are embarassing us because you can't seem to be bothered to learn the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament.

It's really not that bloody difficult, and there are some very smart people here who would very willingly help you to get a clue on the topic.

Hell, maybe religion would even help you with your anger issues. I do not know. Those are a mystery to me.

I happen to respect atheists more than some religious fanatics. I do believe in God but I can't identify with any religious movement although I was raised catholic. For me, God is the beginning and the end and everything in between is us mere mortals and the material world that surrounds us which was created by God.
We can only learn to understand the material world and thus God is incomprehensible because he belongs to the spiritual world. This seems to work until I start to ask a fundamental question: if the spiritual God created the material world who/what created the spiritual God? When it comes to faith, I just believe that God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. Am I wrong? I don't know but we all need something to believe in and I don't believe in money.

Both testaments are God's word, both testaments are considered part of the Bible. That's all I need to know.

DomainMaster, you are very correct. I have been giving yo-yo the benefit of the doubt by assuming that he is biologically capable of understanding, and that he simply chooses to remain ignorant.

Perhaps I have been too generous with my assumptions. :(

I was born a believer....then I became more or less an athiest. Now I'm not quite sure what I am. I swing from antagonism, to belief. Kind-of odd, but I tend to think believe what a friend said to me..."Everyone needs some sort of spirtuality."

And while I believe my spirituality is very private, I don't mind people interested in telling me about their faith. I've known morons, atheists, chrisitians, and even people whom claimed to be psychics; and I listen to all of them. I don't necessarily make any real judgements, because who am I!?

My debating skills suck, so I choose to quit proceeding before I humiliate myself (more) :D.

But, there is something we can all agree on...there are some great tips for good health in the Bible :p . Not bad for a book that is more or less 3,000 years old.
