For most of the time I used DreamWeaver and no doubt there is no other application like that. I am looking for the kind of editor, which will not eat up my resources, can run all time in background. Traditional notepad is OK, not great though. While searching I found this html editor post in design blog, which praises notepad++. Anyone here used this application before or currently using it? What's your take on this? Thanks.
I've known a lot from forums about Notepad++ and all of them are happy with it. I myself haven't used or seen it, but with all the good things I've heard and read about it, I think it's one of the best things offered out there. With all that said, it's still up to you if you find it good or not, doesn't hurt to try, especially it's free.
I use Notepad++ exclusively. It's great for XHTML and PHP, just don't go too crazy with the tabbed documents feature or you'll end up with a hundred files open at once without a clue what you were doing with them It's extremely light with no need for an installer, I have used it on machines as slow as 166MHz with no problem whatsoever working on multiple files. Definitely worth your attention.
Do try to use the editor editplus, supports everything and much more, has a built in browser so you can toggle from design to code in an instance. Hope this helps. God bless.
Dreamweaver is a $400 text editor when it comes right down to it. The design view is a steaming pile of crap, spews out more malfed up code than a script kiddie cracker wannabe (and by cracker I mean a person who breaks into computers and networks, which is often incorrectly labeled a hacker; the proper definition of a hacker is someone who is good with computers and modifying them to suit their unique needs) can with the click of a button, and only really becomes useful to a Web designer or developer when using the code view "feature" which as I said makes it a glorified $400 text editor. Go with something free instead (if you are going to pay for an editor, look into using Edit+ instead - it'll only set you back $30, and includes just about everything that Dreamweaver has, and so much more but without the bloat).
