Photoshop is awesome - but there is definitely a learning curve. Be prepared to go through some tutorials - it's does so much and not something you can just figure out on your own. But if you want some serious photo editing software, I feel it is the best. If you only need a photo editor for small projects, you might consider something far more user friendly (and much cheaper).
Hello. I can tell you that Photoshop is really good program for making changes with images. I cannot answer that it’s so handy. You know, you need time to get used to it. There are different functions and work with layers you need to know how to do. Practice and you will get it easy then.

It's a little bit complicated but you may realize your ideas in the way you like. There is a great number of other similar to PS software but it have limited functions, for example Xara.
