I'm buying a few domains today. I was doing a keyword search using a software in order to help me find a niche, the software gave me information about how often a certain keyword is searched, how much competition do I have for that keyword, google ad price for it as well as related keywords. I found some keywords which were searched pretty often, but didn't have much competition. They were mostly 2-3 word keywords for example I'm searching for cat which has a too much competition, but yellow african cat has a significant amount of searches, but much less competition. (this is just an example, I'm not doing a site for those keywords). So my idea is to make a website like www.yellow-african-cat.com Put some basic information about it do some search engine optimization, put some ads from adsense and maybe an affiliate program, I'm gonna put just a couple of paragraph on the certain subject so I'm thinking there will be limited information on the certain subject on my web site, so the user will click on the ads in hope to find better info. Is the overall approach good and can it be profitable? I'm new to e-marketing, just starting out, so that's why I'm asking. Or am I better off building a website about something I really know about and putting quality info there, update it daily and do SEO.
well your idea sounds okay but it never comes out to be as simple as you thought of it in the beginning. and some basic content about the yellow african cat wont get you on the top of google. constant new content+constant quality links will p.s. dont buy domain with more than one dash (-) in it.
well the thing is, I search the specific keyword "yellow african cat" (again, this is not the actual keyword, just an example) , and there wasn't a single search result about the exact term "yellow african cat" , the results I got from google were like this - "yellow cat which is african" , "an african yellow cat", or a site which contains the three words somewhere in a sentence, but not the exact words in the order "yellow african cat" So I'll try to promote the exact term as a niche because that is what people are searching for. What do you think about that? I'm gonna also make a site with high quality content, about building muscle / bodybuilding. That's the only thing I can truly consider myself as an expert of the subject. There's a lot of demand for that kind of information but also there's too much competition. If I make a high quality site with a lot of quality content and search engine optimization, will there be a chance for success. Because there are so many major websites on the subject, I wonder If I'll get views.
What I planning on doing is hiring out a writer to crank out 20 articles at 10 dollers and articles. Building the site and submitting to free directories. Adding adsense and and affiliate programs. Good Luck
Thanks for the advice I wasn't saying that my idea was the way to go, but because I'm new and inexperienced about the e-marketing trends, I was asking if my idea is valid, and if it's plausible to earn money by doing the approach I listed above.
Start a foundation for the endangered LOL yellow african cat and sell bumper stickers If you're looking for longterm money i would focus on quality content and follow SEO basics. If you want faster money with higher click through rate you could start a directory related to your niche.
Yeah that might work in the short term, but if you want to really become successful, provide frequent content you can't just slap up a website and not update it regularly.. one you will lose your positioning in the search engines and two you won't get your visitors coming back. But having websites named with the keywords you are planning to get your visitors from is a great idea, it helps you out a lot. -- Hamish
