wow, i never used the search engine, i used to have a lycos mail account. They never heard of a spam filter(or a working one,) ill tell you that much.
Wow, Lycos, yeah that is an old-school search engine for sure. Back in 1998 they were the biggest engine along with excite.com, webcraler, altavista and infoseek. Word is it lost popularity because they seemed to have trouble sending traffic anywhere but their own network of sites (tripod, etc). I think that is tru because I remeber getting like 80 hots a day from excite and 1 hit every 2 days from Lycos, despite the fact that they were of similar size at that time. I see no reason to use them anymore. Been there done that.
I remember back in 2000 I used Lycos more than I used Yahoo! It's funny to see how much searching has improved since then and thanks largely to Google, you actually get what you ask for. I haven't used Lycos in a while, it's amazing really to think that force of habit and advertising has basically made me forget Lycos existed. What about hotbot.com and dogpile.com? Anybody use these?
me too!!! Not any more! Although it has a lot of content! The same with altavista! I used to use it alot but then the big G came over!!
I haven’t heard that name for a very long time. I decided to check the site and did a search, the first ten listing were all spam ads.
I used to use them alot as well as hotbot, but they are now useless since microerr I mean Google took over.
I was just thinking today about the day i found Yahoo and stopped using Lycos. The problem with them was that you could pay to have a high listing on search results. So you would get all kinds of irrelevant results at the top of your searches and they did not say that they were sponsored results. Back then, Yahoo would list some DMOZ categories at the top of the search results and that was so useful. pretty funny.
I never searched in Lycos but used their email. They provide 3GB space. They even beat Gmail! Did you know this interesting fact? -Regards NC
Do you know someone that uses 3GB space for mail box ? I don't.. I think the space in not playing first role, when you choose mail server
