I found a five years old EMD domain but it is .info. The price offer of the domain owner is almost 5 000 $ and I am not sure if it is worth or not. The domain is PR0 with almost no backlinks and the domain authority is 1. Do you think is it possible to rank number one with this info domain if I create a quality website? Is it possible to outrank the .com version of the same exact match domain?
It is doubtful it is worth $5k My reasoning being that it is likely you could find an EMD freely available which would have just as much chance... dot com can be beaten it is only in peoples minds "dot com" as that will be most likely remembered, but when it comes to actual results if that is what is required and what matters, from actual searches, it matters not one dot which ext it is as long as you stay away from those a little more restricted by country connotations. It is possible say to find .co or .me or .tv all of which have equal chance as a dot com in actual search results. People will say ah but dot com is better, and yes we know this as it is the most likely to think of but again I say if it's just for search it matters not in some cases. I hope that helps you...
don't waste your money just for EMD domains, its not worthed,, just pick another domain, and spend your $5k to build your site with quality content, and some off page optimations don't forget to do research about your niche, and found some long tail keywords on your niche, its possible to beat .com or others EMD, i think the most important think is not on domain, but on your research before build a site,,
Also, Google doesn't like the EMD. You may want to read the site below. Don't be deceived! http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-ppc-seo-discussion-forum/686682-can-any-one-tell-me-what-exact-match-domain-its-meaning.html
Mate I dont think you should spend that much on a domain purely because of it's age. If you hoping to get rankings because the domains is an EMD then that aint gonna help either. The only time you should spend a fair amount on a domain is if you feel it is brand-able and also if it can target a specific niche. .info domains are generally not the most popular...both in terms of brand-ability and also reputation with search engines. All other domain TLD don't really matter but .info's are not given much credibility due to the fact that they were sold so cheap and that most spammers and blackhaters bought .info domains for the balckhat marketing tactics. A good domain TLD to consider at the moment would be .co domains.....I myself have invested in some nice .co domains that are highly brand-able and short.
I would still go for .com as it is the most popular extension, search engines give higher value to this extension compared to others..... because of its popularity..... and based on popularity other tlds are treated in term of SEO.... so you can put in a line like .com, .net, .org, .info etc.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I agree with you all. I am not going to spend that much money.
