I guess you need to ask yourself if "SPAM" is useful for SEO? A lot of people do it and it works, but some claim it doesn't work. Best thing to do is, try it out yourself and see what happens - then let us know. .
I generally would stay away from anything spammy, It may help a little but most links will not be counted by google
