    It means it's ugly.

Don't you think it would be nicer to have Genome.co.uk or Project.co.uk ?

Think again because i'm not the only one who dislike two words domain names (Genome/Project/co/uk). Especially on a long extension that requires two dots.

"Genome Project uk" - 545,000 google results, exact phrase has 31,600 search results, there is a human genome experiment going on in uk. so there may be a future value.

project.co.uk isnt specific, too generic than genomeproject.co.uk

i would keep that domain with me if i had it, still the experiments are going on, and its about human genomes, who knows what the outcomes would be, i'd rather sell this name in the future

yeah maybe poor for now, since its an experiment still.

read, still the work is going on, and not small work, work like mapping and sequencing the human genome which is not over yet: imagine once its over and results are published and how much interest and buz there would be!

keep the domain, dont sell it now
you'll get a big prize for it in the future

People don't understand that the shorter your domain name is then the easier it is for your visitors to remember, the easier it is for your visitors to type, and the easier it is for your visitors to tell others about your domain name. All of these are good things.

as long as your short and easy name is compatible with the content

shortness and the easy-to-remember are not the only factors, are they?

lets consider this human genome project
    ------------------------------------------------
its not a commercial product nor a service, its scientific, academic.
    and its specific.

project.co.uk? does that tell anything about this?
    genome.co.uk? its generic

genomeproject: indicates that its a project and genome related. .co.uk tells that its happening in uk. specific
now who is the audience? academic people mainly, students. They know where they are going. A taxi driver may remember project.co.uk or genome.co.uk well than genomeproject.co.uk but he is not audience. genome together with project describes its content and intentions very well for the target audience. IMHO

GenomeProject.co.uk is a highly descriptive domain name but very difficult to type. It has too many characters so it is hard to remember, thus weaking its value. However, Genome.com is short, obviously intuitive and easy to remember giving it the $12 million price tag it sold for (plus the opportunity to monetize given the genetic industry's huge market)...

We don't need to know if it's a project, a test, a beta, for kids, a game, a prototype, a play, an education purpose... whatever. When people search for genome they want accurate, precise scientific datas and not some made up science crap.

It makes sense to me that it may be a valuable domain some day. Like others have said the domain should be relevant to the content of the site. Your domain describes exactly what it is. Keep it and park it. You never know who might see it and want to make you an offer. :)

lol! i agree to a certain extent son, but this is about the value of the domain that this user has.. genome.com is taken right? why bother?

people who do search or want data about genomes may type genome yes. But people who do wanna know about the genome project would certainly type uk genome project or genome project (if you develop this site now itself, you would have better chances)
you gotta see that genome and "genome project" are different!

if you see, exact monthly search volume for genome project is 3000! for a ongoing scientific work, 3000 people in the world are searching for it(thats enough for a ongoing scientific work imo)
we are here to appraise the domains that are posted here, so why bother about already taken domains and nullifying the value of this domain without taking the potential into consideration?

what you say is just because there is genome.com and project.com and others, this domain worth only the reg fee? cant agree son

and if you see HumanGenomeProject.com is priced at 36,800 USD!!! Maybe he is a bad seller, but its not 2000$. I don't have to say more.
What i say is keep this domain, it will certainly give you hundreds times more than "reg fee" in the future, good luck!
