I just sent my first email to someone who has sites similiar to some of my domains to find out if they would be interested in purchasing them. I think what I said was okay, but I would like to know exactly what to say next time in order to generate a response and more importantly a sale.

Have you ever solicited someone like this to buy a domain? Were you successful and if so, what exactly did you say? If possible, please cut and paste your letter so we can all benefit.

In my opinion it's best to keep it short. Explain the purpose of your email courteously without beating around the bush. No need to extol the virtues of your domain like "it's a short and memorable domain", "has PR5" etc. Those things will probably mean nothing to him.

Just state the domain name. It's very important to TARGET your prospects. An good example of targetting is: approaching the .net owner of a domain where you have the .com)

What you want is for your prospect to see the domain name and feel it is 'perfect' for him. Find out your prospect's name and use it. (Otherwise he might dismiss it as spam.)

Here's a sample email. edit to suit your needs.

    Hello (name),

My name is .... and I own the domain name, .......
I am making this web name available for sale.

I am contacting a select number of individuals/organizations that I believe would be interested. If you would like to acquire (domain.com) for your online business, please contact me at your convenience.

    Thank you for your time.

    Yours sincerely,
    (your 'real' name)
(your email - try not to use free email like Yahoo/Hotmail)
