What do you put in your portfolio?

Having a good portfolio is essential for us writers, but what do you put in yours?
I run 2 websites, one for my writing business and the other is Adult retail. I write blogs for both and usually direct potential clients to the one on the writing site. The theme of the blog on this site is general writing related info and some news related stuff.

I guess what I am really asking here is, should I put other topics in as well and are there any topics in particular that are good for potential clients to see?

I guess the first question is do you ever write outside of the adult niche or do folks in the niche look for other stuff too? If yes to either, perhaps start a third website that you would use with those folks.

Your portfolio can never have too many topics. Clients tend to read and focus on the article that covers the industry they're in and ignore the rest of the spread. So if you're interested in targeting clients from several industries, just include some articles that have titles related to those industries. As long as it's a solid piece of writing, you're bound to hear from your potential client.

But if you're just looking to write more stuff for your portfolio in your own adult niche, you can include samples of different writing styles. For example, press releases and blog posts have completely different writing styles. Product reviews require a different tone as well. Just show as much versatility as you can :)

You want to use your portfolio to showcase examples of the types of writing that you are selling. It's also a good idea to establish at least 3 samples for each niche, a niche either being a business category and/or type of writing. i.e. blogs, articles, website content, PR's, eBooks, sales letters, etc etc.

if you want them to buy it,l show them who's bought it before. if you can even include some performance stats, even better.

While you would write about your main skills and that stuff you do right now, don't forget to remember your qualities and if you have done something in the past, make sure you show it up in your portfolio so customers or people who will need you could see your wide professional spectre or something.

Your portfolio must prove that you are an all-round specialist and you can write in different styles and almost on every topic.
