    As we all know there are many different methods to optimise your site for search engines....too many sometimes!

    So, out of interest, what do people prioritise when starting out with a new site?

    Directory Submissions
    Social Bookmarking
    Article Marketting
    Writing Articles
    Blog Commenting
    Forum Posting

    I think these are the main ones - if people know some others, then mention them below :)

    In the past I have gone with writing articles - probably because most of my sites are blogs!

    Depends on the site. Generally though I prefer article submissions and social bookmarking.

    For my social bookmarking site I prefer commenting on forums and blogs.

    I focus on these methods mainly:

    1. Article Writing
    2.Forum Posting
    3. Social Bookmarking
    4. Blog Comments

    Blog comments can consume a lot of time, so I save it for last. Forums allow me to network with others in my niche quickly.

    The above would be my order. I don't do a lot of Social Bookmarking. I get pretty good results by doing a little bit of everything.

    the more I think about it, the more I think it depends on what site I am promoting...i have several different sites and for some, forum posting works best and for others it is just unadulterated blogging and blog commenting that works best....

    ....i try them all though and sometimes I am suprised where the links are coming from. having some good fortunes with visitors from email links at the moment.

    Lately I've been focusing on blog commenting - where appropriate. I need to pick it up a bit in the other areas, especially article submission. Part of my 2009 to-do list! :)

    Everything trickles down from getting close to the right keywords.

    For me then its the usual content generation, blog commenting, forums, social bookmarking etc ... frankly kinda left out directory submission lately.
