I have bought the books, watched the tutorials, downloaded the software, got rid of vista and installed XP, but it seems like everything I do doesn’t work. Maybe I’m retarded, but whenever I try to view the pages in dynamic view or my browser the ColdFusion pages will not show up. Does anyone have a noob step by step guide of what you need and how to set up a home computer to start developing a ColdFusion site? Do I need to have a dedicated server? Virtual server? I’m not sure if there’s a way to do this cheap, but I thought I’d ask. Thanks
OK. I got a development enviorment set up, but I can't connect to an external database any suggestions?
I believe you also need to install a webserver like IIS. This link might be of help http://www.sitepoint.com/article/install-coldfusion-mx-windows/ Why not use a CF host like gearhost? $16.99 for a ColdFusion Basic account is pretty cheap.
Coldfusion comes with it own webserver there is no need to install apache or IIS along side Coldfusion if you don't want to. If you want cheap coldfusion hosting I'd suggest http://www.hostingatoz.com It's cheap and they don't block many tags.
wow that is cheap. how is their support and dependability? i like gearhost because i can share datasources across multiple domains in my account.
Yep. Hosting A to Z is good, support wise and server wise. Well, most of the hosting providers support this including hosting a to z
Personally I have had no issues. My sites there are low volume though. But then again its only $20 per year. It's a great starting point of blog hosting site.
